Pentax has been a common name in the photography world since 1952, for the release of great cameras. The release of pentax k 7 was a redefining moment for the company, as this camera incorporates various incredible features of all their previous underrating SLRs digital line plus some enhancements and upgrades.

Design

The K-7 weighs 670g and measures 130.5×96.5×72.5mm in size. With K-7, Pentax added the dust, cold and weather resistant body plus an environment seal making it possible for photographers to work comfortably in any weather. The K-7 has been designed with a magnesium-steel alloy body plus a stainless-steel frame. The mixture of materials in its skeleton has made it possible for the camera to resist cold to as low as 10 degrees.

The rugged build quality of K-7 is inherited from its predecessors K20D and K10D. K-7 has brought back the squared blocky shape which was used by the old SLR film. Compared to its predecessors K-7 is marginally smaller as compared to K20D and up to 33% smaller than Nikon D300. This camera is 9% lighter than Canon EOS 50D and 22% lighter than Nikon D300. The shutter on this camera boasts at a maximum speed of 1/8000sec.

The display

The camera comes with a 3.0 inches LCD view which has 921,000 dots resolution which is an improvement from the previous models and it makes the live-view feature easy to use. Performance

Before the release of pentax K-5, k-7 is the fastest pentax ever built shooting at a top speed of 5.2 fames/second (14 RAW/DNG, 15 RAW/PEF or 40 JPEGs). Although its performance is lower than that of Canon 7D and Nikon D300S, K-7 is has the capability to exceed the expectation of many photographers.

The SAFOX VIII and the wide frame auto-focus system feature the 11 sensor points, which is also present in the pentax K-5. Pentax has improved the AF system by the addition of light source on the data range. This makes it possible for this camera to shoot professional motor sport images.

K-7 uses the maker’s classic-K mount and has been designed for supporting legacy lens. This camera can handle all the pentax-K mount lenses comfortably. The pentax K 7 has the capability of capturing HD videos at 1536×1024, 1280×720 or 640×416 resolutions at 30 f/s. To record the audio sound with the video; the K-7 comes with an external Microphone-terminal. This records a superb quality sound as compared to the internal microphone. The HDMI port on the pentax K 7 makes it possible for you to view the videos on your HD television.

To capture perfect quality images, this camera has a High Dynamic Range mode for capturing images. This high dynamic range mode captures 3 images and combines them inside the camera to help bring out the background details like the highlights, mid-tones and shadows also helps widen the image exposure range.

The camera has an inbuilt lens correction tool which adjusts the lenses electronically reducing lens lateral-chromatic aberration and distortion saving you time, which you might, spend on the computer making this changes. This camera also embeds your copyright information on the meta-tag data on each image, thus making it easy for you to prove ownership of the pictures.

Fast High quality image-reproduction

For fast image production, the K-7 features the pentax-real-image engine (PRIME) II, which is an upgrade to the original PRIME as an imaging engine. This engine offers fast data processing speed for high quality pictures with more color rendition accuracy. It also offers high speed transmission of movie data.

This camera also features the newly developed CMOS-image sensor measuring 23.4×15.6mm, and the high speed 4 channel images data readout. The sensitivity of this sensor has been increased from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 which reduces the noise effects.

pentax K 7 comes with the sophisticated 77-segment multi-pattern metering-system which improves the light metering accuracy. This system improves the exposure control accuracy by analyzing the type of data transmitted from the cameras sensor.

Other features includes RAW button which switches the single action of image file-format, sensitivity-priority mode, hyper manual function and the hyper program function.
